Renganaath Ravee was born on 5th May 1981 inVypin, an island in West Kochi,Kerala[9]as the son of Raveendran O.B. and Rajaky N.K. From an early age, Renganaath displayed a strong aptitude for music. His parents recognised and encouraged him to learn theCarnatic violin. He began learning the violin at the age of eight, further deepening his connection withmusic.
With the desire to pursue music professionally, he sought admission to theSwati Thirunal College of Music in Thiruvananthapuram. However, his parents did not support his wish. Renganaath then undertook his pre-degree program atCochin College,Fort Kochi and later graduated fromSree Narayana College,Varkala. He attempted post-graduate studies atGovernment College, Kariavattom but ultimately discontinued.
In 2002, during his graduation, he and two of his friends formed amusic band that they initially named ‘Namaha’ but later changed to ‘The Hymn’. The band performed at clubs, events, and functions, and they eventually tried in vain to bring out amusic album with 12 Hindi songs.[10]During this time, Renganaath taught himselfWestern classical piano andguitar. Although he wanted to pursue music further, his band members did not share the same aspirations, leading to the disbanding of the group.
Later, Renganaath wished to studyaudio engineering at theFilm and Television Institute of India (FTII),Pune. Despite applying three times and clearing all attempts, he was unable to join the institute due to various reasons. Interestingly, later in 2010, Renganaath worked on an FTII diploma film directed by Kamal K.M.
He believes that if he had not become asound designer, he would have been alive musician or aviolinist, staying true to his deep passion formusic.
