
Reinhold Philipp Johann Graf[a] von Anrep-Elmpt (30 January 1834 – 26 August 1888) was aBaltic German officer inRussian service, and an explorer.
Reinhold von Anrep-Elmpt of theAnrep family was born inKursk in theRussian Empire toJoseph Carl von Anrep and Cecilie Anrep,née von Elmpt. He grew up inRiga andSaint Petersburg. In 1854 he became acornet in theChevalier Guard Regiment. He served in theCrimean War. In 1858 he left the army with the rank ofRittmeister. The time between 1858 and 1870 he spent on his estateKärstna Manor (German:Kerstenshof) in present-dayEstonia. After this, he spent the rest of his life as an explorer, travelling toAustralia, theEast Indies,China,Japan, theHawaiian Kingdom,California,Central America,South America,Cambodia andThailand. He died in Thailand.[1]
