Reid Scott Weiner (born November 19, 1977) is an American actor. He is best known for his starring roles as Brendan "Brando" Dorff in theTBS comedy seriesMy Boys (2006–2010), Dan Egan in theHBO comedy seriesVeep (2012–2019), Gordon Ford inThe Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2022–2023), andNYPD Detective Vincent Riley onLaw & Order (2024–present). He also appeared in the romantic comedy filmHome Again (2017), the superhero filmVenom (2018), and the comedy-drama filmLate Night (2019).

Early life

Scott was born Reid Scott Weiner on November 19, 1977.[1] He grew up inClifton Park, New York.[1] He attendedLa Salle Institute inTroy, New York andSyracuse University, graduating in 2000,[2] before moving toNew York City to pursue his acting/writing career.[3]

Career

Scott began his career with roles in the off-Broadway playCargo and several television commercials including aDiet Coke ad set in a movie theater.[citation needed] In 2002, he won the lead role in theFox pilotWith You in Spirit, for which he received hisScreen Actors Guild card. Scott recalls, "I remember thinking that the money from the pilot was a fortune. It wasn't. After renting a car to get around L.A., paying off some debt and maybe buying a new pair of shoes, I was broke. I had to borrow money from my father just to join SAG."[4]

Since then he has appeared in television and film, most notablyMy Boys, an original series onTBS. He appeared in an episode ofBones, onThe Secret Life of the American Teenager as Dr. Jeff Tseguay, as Mike inMotorcity and inCSI: NY as Seth Riggin. Scott joined the cast ofShowtime'sThe Big C in 2010. He played Dr. Todd Mauer, oncologist for the main character (played byLaura Linney).[5] He appeared on the big screen in films such asAmusement andLosing Control.[6]

Scott co-starred as Dan Egan on HBO's political comedy seriesVeep.[7]

He also voiced Turbo in theNetflix original animated seriesTurbo FAST.[8] The series is based on the 2013 filmTurbo.

In June 2014, it was reported that Scott had joined theNancy Meyers filmThe Intern, as a "smooth-talking, cocky young businessman."[9] However, Scott's character is not in the final cut of the film.[10]

In 2020, Scott played the lead role of David in theNBC drama pilotEcho which was written by JJ Bailey.[11] He played a supporting role as Ben in the 2022 drama filmWildflower.[12]

In November 2023, it was announced that Scott would joinLaw & Order as Detective Vincent Riley for season 23. He replaces former starJeffrey Donovan, who exited the series due to creative differences.[13]

Personal life

On June 21, 2014, Scott married his longtime girlfriend Elspeth Keller. They have two sons, born in 2015 and 2018.[14][15] Scott’s sister is chefKatianna Hong,[16] who appeared onseason 22 ofTop Chef.[17]
