Rehana Siddiqui (Punjabi,Urdu:ریحانہ صدیقی) was aPakistani actress.[1] She was known for her roles in dramasKhawab Azab,Zameen,Fasad Ki Jar,Takmeel,Manchalay Ka Sauda,Saat Bhiraie,Teen Bata Teen,Ghareeb-e-Shehar andBarson Baad.[2]

Early life

She was born in 1946 inShimla,Punjab,British India and her father named Nazir Ahmed was a government servant.[1]

Career

Rehana started working atRadio Pakistan in 1962 and before joining Radio she used to write short stories for newspaper and magazines using her pen name Rehana Zeerat.[3] She made her debut as an actress in 1964 when PTV was newly established,[3] and was noted for her roles in dramasFasad Ki Jar,Shama Har Rang Main Jalti Hai,Zameen,Kuch To Kaho,Sat Bhiraie,Takmeel,Dastak Aur Darwaza andKallo.[2] She also appeared in dramasSaat Bhiraie,Aadhi Roti Aik Langoti,Gohra Ghaas Khaata Hai andTanha,[4] and did theatre and stage plays atLahore.[5][6] She also worked inUrdu andPunjabi films and appeared in filmsBahu Rani,Aanch,Hamdam,Agg Tay Khoon andMohabbat Rang Laye Gi.[2] For her contributions towards the Radio, Television and Film industry, she was honored by theGovernment of Pakistan with thePride of Performance in 2009.[7]

Later in late 2012 she retired and went to live with one of her daughters atBlackburn atUnited Kingdom.[2]

Personal life

She married film actor Aurangzeb but later they divorced and she took the custody of her two daughters. Her elder sisterTalat Siddiqui was also an actress and singer.[1][8][9] Rehana's niecesFariha Pervez andArifa Siddiqui are both singers andNahid Siddiqui is a famous dancer.[2]

Illness and death

She contracted a prolonged illness from which she died inBlackburn,United Kingdom at age 75.[1]

Awards and recognition

She was honored by theGovernment of Pakistan with thePride of Performance in 2009.[7]
