Reece Robson (born 18 June 1998) is an Australian professionalrugby league footballer who plays as ahooker for theSydney Roosters in theNational Rugby League (NRL).
He previously played for theSt. George Illawarra Dragons in the NRL and at representative level has played for thePrime Minister's XIII and theNew South Wales Blues.
Robson was born inMurwillumbah, in theNorthern Rivers region ofNew South Wales,Australia.
He played junior rugby league for theMurwillumbah Colts and theBilambil Jets, before moving toSydney.[2][3][4] In Sydney, he attendedEndeavour Sports High School and played junior rugby league forDe La Salle Caringbah.[5] In 2016, while attending Endeavour Sports High, he represented theAustralian Schoolboys.[6]
Robson is the cousin ofWorld Surf League Surfer Callum Robson.[7]
In 2014, Robson was a member of theCronulla-Sutherland SharksHarold Matthews Cup squad.[8] In 2015, he joined theSt. George DragonsSG Ball Cup side.[9][10] In 2016, despite still being SG Ball Cup-eligible, Robson moved up to theSt. George Illawarraunder-20 side, where he played 36 games over two seasons, scoring nine tries.[11] Later that season, he started at hooker for the New South Wales under-18 side.[12] In November 2016, he re-signed withSt. George Illawarra until the end of the2019 NRL season.[13] In 2017, he was selected to start at hooker for the New South Wales under-20 andJunior Kangaroos sides.[14][15]
In 2018, Robson joined St. George'sNRL squad and spent the majority of the season playing for theirNew South Wales Cup side, winning their Player of the Year award.[16] He again represented the New South Wales under-20 andJunior Kangaroos sides in 2018.[17][18]
In Round 9 of the2018 NRL season, Robson made his debut off the bench in St. George's 34–14 win over Melbourne.[19]On September 10 at theBrad Fittler medal awards, Robson won the award for NSW Under-20 Player of the Year.[20] In October, he represented thePrime Minister's XIII in their win over thePNG Prime Minister's XIII.[21]
On 6 May, Robson was selected for theNSW Residents side that lost to theQueensland Residents.[22] On 12 August, Robson signed a four-year deal with theNorth Queensland Cowboys, starting in 2020.[23]
In February, Robson was a member of the North Queensland2020 NRL Nines winning squad, scoring a try in the final against his former club, theSt. George Illawarra Dragons.[24]
In Round 1 of the2020 NRL season, he made his debut for North Queensland in their 21–28 loss to theBrisbane Broncos. In Round 3, he scored his first two tries against theGold Coast Titans in a 36-6 win.[25] In Round 5, Robson became the startinghooker for the North Queensland side. In Round 9, he scored two tries in a 16–42 loss to theSydney Roosters.[26] On 24 August, Robson was ruled out for the remainer of the2020 NRL season after tearing his hamstring.[27] In his first season with the North Queensland side, he played 14 games, scoring five tries.
Robson played 24 games in 2021, scoring six tries. North Queensland would finish the2021 NRL season in 15th position on the table narrowly avoiding theWooden Spoon.[28]
Robson played 26 matches for North Queensland in the2022 NRL season as the club finished third on the table and qualified for the finals. Robson played in both finals matches including their preliminary final loss toParramatta.[29]On 9 November, Robson signed a two-year contract extension to remain at North Queensland until the end of 2025.[30]
On 12 June, Robson was selected to play for New South Wales in game two of the2023 State of Origin series. Robson was retained by New South Wales for game three as the blues lost the series 2-1.[31]Robson made 23 appearances for North Queensland in the2023 NRL season as the club finished 11th on the table.[32]
On 26 May, Robson was selected by New South Wales ahead of game one in the2024 State of Origin series.[33]Robson played in all three games as New South Wales won the series 2-1.[34]Robson played 23 matches for North Queensland in the2024 NRL season as they finished 5th on the table. Robson played in both finals games for North Queensland as they were eliminated in the second week by Cronulla.[35] On 6 December, the Roosters announced that Robson had signed a four year deal to join them from the 2026 season.[36]
In May, Robson was selected by New South Wales ahead of game one in the 2025 State of Origin series. He played in all three games as New South Wales lost the series 2-1.[37]
