Francis Rostell "Red"Donahue (January 23, 1873 – August 25, 1913) was an AmericanMajor League Baseballpitcher fromWaterbury, Connecticut, who played for 13 seasons both in theNational League and theAmerican League from1893 through1906.[1]
Red broke into the Majors with theNew York Giants in 1893, while still attendingVillanova University. After finishing college in1895, he appeared with theSt. Louis Browns near the end of the season. On July 8,1898, pitching for the Philadelphia Phillies, he no-hit theBoston Beaneaters at Philadelphia'sNational League Park.[2] He lost 35 games during the 1897 season, still an MLB record.
Red died inPhiladelphia at the age of 40, after succumbing to the effects ofparalysis,[3] and was interred at St. Joseph Cemetery inWaterbury, Connecticut.[1]
