Ravi Narayana Reddy (5 June 1908 – 7 September 1991) was an Indian politician, a founding member of theCommunist Party of India, and a peasant leader. He was a leader in theTelangana Rebellion against the rule ofOsman Ali Khan, Asaf Jah VII. Reddy was also a philanthropist, social reformer,[1] and parliamentarian. He is renowned inTelangana for fighting on behalf of peasants.[2] Raavi Narayana Reddy also played a critical role in theAndhra Mahasabha as its chairman in 1941.[3]
In the 1952 Indian general election, Reddy stood for thePeople's Democratic Front, (a pseudonym for the bannedCommunist Party of India), and polled more votes thanJawaharlal Nehru and also the first one entering in the parliament in independent India.[4]
An auditorium, theRaavi Narayana Reddy Memorial Auditorium Complex atBanjara Hills inHyderabad, was built and named in his memory by theTelangana Martyrs' Memorial Trust.[1]
In 2006, Chief Minister ofAndhra PradeshY. S. Rajasekhara Reddy presented theRaavi Narayana Reddy memorial national foundation award toA. B. Bardhan, Communist Party of India general secretary.[5]
