Rakad Mahmoud Salameh Salem (Arabic:ركاد محمود سلامة سالم;kunya,Abu Mahmoud) is anIraqi-Palestinian politician and longtime Secretary-General of theArab Liberation Front (ALF), anIraqi-controlledBa'thist faction of thePalestine Liberation Organization (PLO). He was alsoeditor-in-chief of the movement's monthly magazine,Sawt al-Jamahir (Arabic,Voice of the masses).
He lives inBir Zeit in theWest Bank, but was previously active inLebanon during theLebanese Civil War as commander of the ALF's military wing. He holds Iraqicitizenship. In 2001, he was arrested byIsraeli forces on suspicion of having transferred money from the Iraqi government to families of Palestiniansuicide bombers.[1]
