Rajeshwar Singh (born 11 March 1973) is an Indian politician and a member of the18th Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh representingSarojini Nagar constituency ofLucknow district.[1][2] He is a member of theBharatiya Janata Party.[1][3] Singh is a former joint director of theEnforcement Directorate.[1][4]
Singh was born on 11 March 1973 inLucknow in the family of Ran Bahadur Singh, adeputy inspector general of police (DIG).[1][5][6] A graduate from the Colvin Taluqdars' College in Lucknow, he completed hisB. Tech fromIndian School of Mines, Dhanbad and aPhD fromUttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University in 2011.[1][5][7] Singh is married toLaxmi Singh, anIPS officer, with whom he has a daughter.[5][8]
An officer of theUttar Pradesh Police (Provincial Police Service) since the last 14 years, Singh took a voluntary retirement from the post of the Joint Director ofEnforcement Directorate on 31 January 2022 to join politics.[4][9]
In the2022 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election, Singh representedBharatiya Janata Party as a candidate fromSarojini Nagar and went on to defeatSamajwadi Party'sAbhishek Mishra by a margin of 56,186 votes, succeeding own party member and incumbentSwati Singh in the process.[2][3][10]
Singh portrayed Rajeshwar Singh in the 2011Hindi filmKya Yahi Sach Hai, which talked about corruption within the police force and the politician-police nexus.[5][9]
