Overview

As per orders of theDelimitation Commission, No. 117 Rajarhat-Gopalpur Assembly constituency is composed of the following: Ward Nos. 6-11,15-19,22-26 ofBidhannagar Municipal Corporation (Before 2015 Wards 7-9 & 14-27 ofRajarhat-Gopalpur Municipality) and Ward Nos. 18 and 21-27 ofSouth Dum Dum Municipality.[1]

Rajarhat-Gopalpur Assembly constituency is part of No. 16Dum Dum (Lok Sabha constituency).[1] Rajarhat (SC) was also part of Dum Dum (Lok Sabha constituency).[2]

In the 2011 election, Purnendo Bose of Trinamool Congress defeated his nearest rival Robin Mondal of CPI(M).

1977–2006 Rajarhat

In the2006 state assembly elections,[5] Rabindranath Mandal ofCPI(M) won the Rajarhat (SC) assembly seat defeating Tanmoy Mondal ofTrinamool Congress. Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. In 2001[6] Tanmoy Mondal of Trinamool Congress defeated Rabindranath Mandal of CPI(M). Prior to that Rabindranath Mondal had won the seat five times in a row defeating Tanmoy Mondal representingCongress in 1996,[7] Sukumar Roy of Congress in 1991,[8] Biswananda Naskar of Congress in 1987, Tanmoy Mondal of Congress in 1982[9] and Amalendu Sekhar Naskar of Congress in 1977.[10][11]

1962–1972 Rajarhat

Khagendranath Mondal of Congress won in 1972[12] and 1971.[13] Rabindranath Mondal of CPI(M) won in 1969.[14] S.N.Das of CPI(M) won in 1967.[15] Pranab Prasad Roy of CPI(M) won in1962.[16] Prior to that the Rajarhat seat did not exist.
