Rae Bareli is one of the 80Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituencies in the northernIndian state ofUttar Pradesh. It is considered to be a bastion of theIndian National Congress. The first Member of Parliament wasBaijnath Kureel. From 1967 to 1977, the seat was held by former Prime MinisterIndira Gandhi, and from 2004 until her appointment to theRajya Sabha in 2024, bySonia Gandhi.
The constituency has an electorate of 9.59 lakhs in 2019 of which nearly 30% belongs toScheduled Castes, 12% Muslims,16%Yadavs.[1]
