Radstädter Tauern Pass (el. 1,738 m [5,702 ft]) is a highmountain pass in theAustrian state ofSalzburg, connecting the town ofRadstadt in thePongau region withMauterndorf inLungau.
The pass separates theRadstadt Tauern in the west and theSchladming Tauern in the east, both part of theNiedere Tauern mountain range in theCentral Eastern Alps. It is crossed by theKatschberg Straße (B 99) road, which runs fromBischofshofen on theSalzach River via Radtstadt in theEnns Valley toSankt Michael im Lungau on theMur River. From Sankt Michael it leads further southwards across theKatschberg Pass toSpittal an der Drau inCarinthia. A little to the west and about 600 metres (2,000 ft) lower, the parallelTauern Autobahn (A 10) crosses the Radstadt Tauern in theTauern Road Tunnel.
The road probably was already used by the CelticTaurisci tribe. It was rebuilt as aRoman road during the rule of EmperorSeptimius Severus from 193 onwards, leading fromIuvavum (Salzburg) in theNoricum province across themain chain of the Alps toAquileia inItaly.
At the pass is theObertauern ski resort.
