Rachita Ram (bornBindhya Ram; 3 October), is an Indian actress who predominantly works inKannada films. One of the highest paid Kannada actresses,[3][4] Rachita is a recipient of oneFilmfare Award South and threeSIIMA Awards.[5]

After appearing in various television shows, Rachita made her film debut with the 2013 film,Bulbul, for which she earned theFilmfare Award for Best Actress – Kannada nomination. She later won theFilmfare Critics Award for Best Actress – Kannada for her performance inRanna (2015). Rachita went onto established herself with successful films such asChakravyuha (2016),Pushpaka Vimana (2017),Bharjari (2017),Ayogya (2018),Seetharama Kalyana (2019),Natasaarvabhowma (2019),Ayushman Bhava (2019),Monsoon Raaga (2022) andKranti (2023). Her highest grossing release came with the Tamil filmCoolie (2025).

Early life

She is a trained classicalBharata Natyam dancer who has given more than 50 performances.

She has a sister,Nithya Ram, who is also a television and film actress.[6][7]

Early work and success (2010–2017)

In 2012, she auditioned for a lead role inBulbul alongside 200 participants and was selected. Before that she worked in the Kannada television soapBenkiyalli Aralida Hoovu along with her sisterNithya Ram.[8] She was paired oppositeDarshan in the film that went on to become a success commercially.[9] On her performance, G. S. Kumar ofThe Times of India wrote, "Rachita Ram has presented an excellent performance in her first movie" and added, "Rachita is amazing with her dialogue delivery, body language and excellent expressions."[10] Her first release of 2014 wasDil Rangeela, in which she was paired oppositeGanesh. B. S. Srivani ofDeccan Herald felt that she "delivers a seasoned performance" in the film.[11] Her second release of the year saw her paired opposite Darshan again inAmbareesha. The film and her performance earned negative reviews from critics.[12][13] InRanna, she played Rukmini, the love interest ofSudeep, appearing in a small yet pivotal role.[14][15] InRathavara, she appeared as the love interest ofSriimurali, who plays a gangster and key aide of anMLA. Sunayana Suresh wrote, "Rachita Ram looks pretty and has acted every bit the cutesy girl-next-door that is required of her".[16]

Rachita starred in the 2016 Kannada movieChakravyuha oppositePuneeth Rajkumar.[17] She made a cameo appearance inJaggu Dada starringDarshan.[18] She also appeared in a song oppositeSudeep inMukunda Murari.[19] Rachita's first release of 2017 wasPushpaka Vimana oppositeRamesh Aravind, where she played his daughter.[20] Her next release wasChethan Kumar'sBharjari oppositeDhruva Sarja; it is also her second movie with actressHaripriya, afterRanna.[21]

Critical acclaim and fluctuations (2018–2024)

In 2018 her first release wasPreetham Gubbi'sJohnny Johnny Yes Papa oppositeDuniya Vijay.[22] Her next release was Mahesh Kumar'sAyogya oppositeSathish Ninasam.[23] ABangalore Mirror critic stated that she "charms her way" through the film. She also appeared in a song oppositeShiva Rajkumar in the filmThe Villain.[24]

In 2019, Rachita had several successful films. Her first release wasSeetharama Kalyana, oppositeNikhil Kumar, which emerged as a blockbuster hit.[25] Aravind Shwetha ofThe News Minute noted, "Rachita is highly convincing. It looks like a tailor-made role for her and it is a treat to watch her on the big screen."[26] Her next release wasPuneeth Rajkumar'sNatasaarvabhowma directed byPavan Wadeyar, her second collaboration with Puneeth afterChakravyuva.[27] The film was a box office success.[28] She appeared in a song in the movieAmar starringAbhishek Gowda.[29] Her next release wasR. Chandru'sI Love You opposite starUpendra.[30] She also made an appearance inShiva Rajkumar'sRustum directed byRavi Varma, where she was paired up withVivek Oberoi.[31][32] Later, she made a special appearance in a song inBharaate oppositeSriimurali. After a gap of a year, In 2021 her first release was withRamesh Aravind directorial100 where she played Ramesh's sister character. The movie became an average grosser at the box office.[35] Her next release in the year was Shankar'sLove You Rachchu where she was paired oppositeAjay Rao, the film failed at the box office.[36][37] In 2022, Rachita expanded to Telugu films, oppositeKalyan Dev inSuper Machi, which had an average run at the box office.[38][39] She then appeared inEk Love Ya, in a cameo inJames,[40] and inMonsoon Raaga oppositeDhananjaya.[41]

In 2023, Rachita appeared oppositeDarshan, inKranti, which was a box office hit.[42] Then, she played the lead inVeeram oppositePrajwal Devraj andBad Manners oppositeAbhishek Ambareesh.[43][44] Her first release of 2024 becameMatinee oppositeSathish Ninasam.[45]

Recent work (2025–present)

Rachita started 2025 with the sequelSanju Weds Geetha 2, oppositeSrinagara Kitty.[46] The film was a critical and commercial failure.[47] She then made her debut in Tamil films withCoolie, where she played a criminal and smuggler's wife oppositeSoubin Shahir.[48] Janani K ofIndia Today stated, "Rachita Ram leaves a mark with her short yet effective performance."[49]

Rachita has established herself as a leading actress in Kannada cinema.[3] In theBangalore Times Most Desirable Women list, Rachita was placed 8th in 2017, 11th in 2018 and 2019, and 15th in 2020.[50][51][52][53] She is one of the most followed Kannada actress onInstagram.[54]
