Raúl Osvaldo Castronovo Zanón (born 11 January 1949) is an Argentine retiredfootballer who played as astriker.
Born inRosario, Santa Fe, Castronovo began his career with localRosario Central in 1968. An economic crisis prompted his move toPeñarol inUruguay, where he became thetop scorer of the1971 edition of theCopa Libertadores, tied withLuis Artime at ten goals.[1]
After playing inLigue 1 withAS Nancy Lorraine for three seasons, Castronovo moved to Spain where he remained until the end of his career, representingCD Málaga,Hércules CF,UD Salamanca andAlgeciras CF and competing in bothLa Liga andSegunda División. On 27 April 1980, whilst afree agent, he was involved in amatch fixing incident between the first and the third clubs which resulted in a two-year ban for himself, Málaga teammateJulio Orozco and Salamanca managerFelipe Mesones;[2] he retired shortly after, aged 31.
