R. S. Shivaji (26 October 1956 – 2 September 2023) was an Indian actor, who was known for his work inTamil films. He had often collaborated in films involvingKamal Haasan andRaaj Kamal Films International, working as an assistant director, sound designer and line producer on film projects.[2][3][4]

Early life and career

R. S. Shivaji was the son of actor and producerM. R. Santhanam, who worked on films includingEllis R. Dungan'sMeera (1945). His brotherSanthana Bharathi is also a popular actor and film director, who has worked in Tamil cinema (Kollywood).[5]

As an actor, R. S. Shivaji primarily played comedy roles and regularly featured inKamal Haasan's films in the 1980s and 1990s. HisSaar! Neenga Engeyo Poiteenga, sir dialogue fromApoorva Sagodharargal (1989) directed atJanagaraj had been regularly parodied in later Tamil movies.[6] He played important roles inKolamavu Kokila andDharala Prabhu asNayanthara's father andVivek's assistant, respectively.[7][8]

Death

Shivaji died due to heart attack during sleep in Chennai on 2 September 2023, at the age of 66.[9][10]
