Queen's Gate is acity gate in theBritish Overseas Territory ofGibraltar. A largepopulation of Barbary macaques reside in this area, making it a major tourist attraction.[1][2] Most of the macaques sleep within an area of 9 hectares (22 acres) around the Queen's Gate.[2]
The gate was created by breaching theCharles V Wall in about 1790. The wall itself is much older and was constructed in 1540 at the command ofPhilip II of Spain.[3] The gate is just abovePrince Ferdinand's Battery, now known asApe's Den.Inglis Way, one of the walks within theUpper Rock Nature Reserve, starts at this gate.
