Qianshan (simplified Chinese:潜山市;traditional Chinese:潛山市;pinyin:qián shān shì) is acounty-level city in the southwest ofAnhui Province, China; it is under the jurisdiction of theprefecture-level city ofAnqing. It has a population of 570,000 and an area of 1,686 square kilometres (651 sq mi). The government of Qianshan County is located in Meicheng Town. The well-knownWan Mountain, or Tianzhu Mountain, is located within the borders of the county.

Geography

Lake Xuehu, noted for itslotus plants, lies in the centre of the city. The number of plants has decreased in recent years, possibly because they provide a food source forlobsters.[citation needed]

Wanghe Town, hometown of Xuruoyu, is in the south of the city.

The Qian River with its noted River Beach flows through Qianshan from north to south.

History

TheTwo Qiaos, two sisters from theThree Kingdoms era were from Wan County, Lujiang Commandery (present-day Qianshan, Anhui).
