Qazigund railway station lies onNorthern Railway network zone ofIndian Railways. It is located inQazigundJammu and Kashmir,India. It is the main transport hub for the people ofQazigund.
The station is situated nearQazigund town inKulgam district,Jammu and Kashmir.
The station has been built as part of theJammu–Baramulla line megaproject, intending to link theKashmir Valley withJammu Tawi and the rest of the Indian railway network. On the inauguration day former PM of India,Manmohan Singh andSonia Gandhi enjoyed the 12-minute ride to Qazigund with 100 students, mostly girls, of the Banihal Higher Secondary School, and made the 17.8-km ride back toBanihal, passing through thetunnel, the second longest in Asia. Those who accompanied them were GovernorN.N. Vohra, Chief MinisterOmar Abdullah, Railway MinisterMallikarjun Kharge and Union Health MinisterGhulam Nabi Azad.[1]
TheRL of the station is 1671 m abovemean sea level.
Like every other station in this mega project, this station also features Kashmiri woodarchitecture, with an intended ambience of a royal court which is designed to complement the local surroundings to the station. Station signage is predominantly inUrdu, English andHindi.[citation needed]
There are a total of 2 platforms and 3 tracks. The platforms are connected byfoot overbridge. These platforms are built to accumulate 24 coaches express train.
