Qaṭma (Arabic:قطمة;Kurdish:Qitmê) also spelledKatma is a village in northwesternSyria, within theAfrin District (Aleppo Governorate). It lied within the de factoAfrin Canton of theAutonomous Administration of North and East Syria since January 2014, until it was captured by theSyrian National Army on March 7, 2018.[citation needed] Its located to the northeast ofAfrin and west ofAzaz. According to theSyria Central Bureau of Statistics, Qaṭma had a population of 1,215 in the 2004 census.[1]
In late 19th century, German orientalistMartin Hartmann noted Qatma as a settlement with 25 houses inhabited bySunniMuslims, who spokeArabic.[2]
