
Pteria (Ancient Greek:Πτερία) was the capital of theLeucosyri in northernCappadocia. They were said byHerodotus to have been taken and ruined byCroesus in 547 BCE. It also was the place of theBattle of Pteria, an undecided battle betweenCyrus the Great andCroesus.[1]
Stephanus of Byzantium cites two towns with this or a similar name: aPterium, which he calls a town of theMedes, andPteria, a town in the territory ofSinope.[2]
Its site is located nearKerkenes Dağ,Asiatic Turkey.[3][4]
