Mystriosuchini, historically known asPseudopalatinae, is an extincttribe (formerly subfamily) of derivedphytosaurs in the clade Leptosuchomorpha. As with all other phytosaurs, mystriosuchins lived duringLate Triassic. The name is derived from the genusMystriosuchus, and the clade was phylogenetically defined by Andrew S. Jones and Richard J. Butler in 2018 as the last common ancestor and all descendants ofMystriosuchus planirostris,Machaeroprosopus jablonskiae, andMachaeroprosopus buceros.[1]
Genera classified in Mystriosuchini includeCoburgosuchus,Machaeroprosopus,Mystriosuchus,Nicrosaurus andRedondasaurus.[2][3] It includes the most ecologically divergent phytosaurs, the terrestrialNicrosaurus[4] and the fully aquaticMystriosuchus.[5]
