Theprovince of Novara (Italian:provincia di Novara) is aprovince in thePiedmont region ofItaly. Its capital is the city ofNovara.

In 1992, the newprovince of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola was created through the fusion of three geographical areas which had previously been part of the province of Novara.

It has an area of 1,339 square kilometres (517 mi2) and a population of 362,925 (2021). The province contains 87comuni (sg.:comune) (seelist ofcomuni of the province of Novara).

Colline Novaresi DOC

The province of Novara is home to theDenominazione di origine controllata (DOC) wine of Colline Novaresi which was created in 1994 for the red and whiteItalian wines of the area. All grapes destined for DOC wine production need to beharvested to ayield no greater than 11tonnes/ha. The red wine is a blend of at least 30%Nebbiolo (known under the local name ofSpanna), up to 40%Uva Rara and no more than 30% collectively ofCroatina andVespolina.Varietal styles of each of the redgrape varieties can be made provided that the grape makes up at least 85% of the wine. The white wine is made 100% from theErbaluce grape. The finished wine must attain a minimumalcohol level of 11% in order to belabelled with the Colline Novaresi DOC designation.[2]
