Prothoracic gland

Glands in the prothorax of certain insects

Theprothoracic glands are either of a pair ofendocrine glands located in theprothorax of certain insects that regulatemolting. They have an ectodermal origin and secreteecdysteroids, such asecdysone and20-hydroxyecdysone.[1] They usually disappear in adults.[2]
