Prometheus is the name of two characters appearing inAmerican comic books published byMarvel Comics. The first one is based on theGreek Titan of the same name while the second one is a member of thePantheon.
The mythological Prometheus first appeared inThe Avengers #282 and was adapted byRoger Stern andJohn Buscema.
The Pantheon version of Prometheus first appeared inThe Incredible Hulk #368 and was created byPeter David.

Prometheus is one of theTitans of Greek mythology and the son ofIapetus. His siblings includedAtlas,Menoetius, andEpimetheus. When their uncleCronus' rule is challenged byZeus, Prometheus and Epimetheus side with theOlympians while Atlas and Menoetius side with Cronus. With the help of Prometheus and Epimetheus, the Olympians defeat the Titans. Prometheus and Epimetheus take an interest in mankind and become the joint rulers inPhthia. Prometheus later learns various skills fromAthena that concern Zeus. After Prometheus takes fire from the gods and gifts it to humanity, Zeus hasKratos andBia bind Prometheus to a pillar in theCaucasian Mountains using chains forged byHephaestus. Zeus also has an eagle peck out Prometheus' liver which grows back every night. Zeus offers to shorten Prometheus' sentence if Prometheus gives him information concerning a prophecy that foretells Zeus being overthrown. Seven generations later,Hercules frees Prometheus during his12 Labours. Zeus is at first against this, but decides to end Prometheus' punishment.
In the modern era, Hercules is injured during a fight withHelmut Zemo'sMasters of Evil whenBlack Mamba drugs Hercules, causing him to charge into battle. AfterNamor is abducted byNeptune and brought to theUnderworld, he manages to escape and is healed by Prometheus. Prometheus directs Namor to Fortress Tartarus, where the otherAvengers are being held.[1] The Avengers make their way to Mount Olympus, where Prometheus speaks to them while they are in the woods. Zeus catches up to the Avengers whileDoctor Druid heals Hercules' mind.[2]

Prometheus is a member of thePantheon, a group consisting ofAgamemnon's descendants. Prometheus is born with a deformed face that looks burned. He drives a very high tech vehicle created by the Pantheon engineers, called the Argo. Prometheus is an excellent tracker, even over interstellar distances.[volume & issue needed]
