Procimequat is atriploidcitrus hybrid or transgeneric hybrid, (Citrus aurantifolia 'Mexican' xFortunella japonica) xFortunella hindsii, in which thelimequat that itself is a cross betweenlime and around kumquat, wasbackcrossed with the primitiveHong Kong kumquat.[1]
The tiny fruits areorange in color, and about the size of a marble.[2] Like some kumquats, it is eaten entirely, including the peel. It tastes like a combination oflemon, orange andcelery.[3]
Despite being triploid, the procimequat does produce seeds, which arenucellar[1] and thus produce plants identical to the parent, independent of the pollen source.
