Priya Kuriyan is an Indiancomic book writer,illustrator andanimation filmmaker,[1][2] based inBengaluru,Karnataka.[2][3]

Education

Kuriyan graduated from theNational Institute of Design, Ahmedabad in 2004.

Career

She began her career as an illustrator forTulika Books.[1][4] Since then, she has been the illustrator for over 100 books and collaborated with a number of writers includingRuskin Bond,Manu S. Pillai, Natasha Sharma, Meera Nair,Jerry Pinto and Radhika Chadha.[4][5] She has also collaborated with the authorDevapriya Roy for the graphic novelIndira (2018), based on the life of the former prime ministerIndira Gandhi.[6][7] As an animation filmmaker, Kuriyan directed educational animation films for theChildren's Film Society, India and episodes for the Indian edition ofSesame Street (Galli Galli Sim Sim).[8]

She is the author of the comic bookAmmachi's Glass,[4] and the author of the picture book and children's adaptation of the writerPerumal Murugan's acclaimed novelPoonachi.[9][10]

Awards and honours

Kuriyan was the recipient of the Big Little Book Award at the Mumbai Literature Festival in 2019.[5][11]
