Prince Gustaf Adolf Sea formerlyPrince Gustav Adolf Sea[1] (French:Mer du Prince-Gustave-Adolphe) is amarginal sea of theArctic Ocean located in theQikiqtaaluk Region,Nunavut,[2] and theInuvik Region,[3] Canada.
It is situated among the islands of theArctic Archipelago. The sea is bounded on the west byBorden Island andMackenzie King Island, and on the east byEllef Ringnes Island. To the south isLougheed Island. The sea opens into theArctic Ocean to the north, and into theByam Martin Channel andMaclean Strait to the south.
The Sea was named in 1898 byOtto Sverdrup after the Swedish prince (and later king)Gustav VI Adolf.[4][5]
