Primorsko-Akhtarsk (Russian:Примо́рско-Ахта́рск) is a porttown and theadministrative center ofPrimorsko-Akhtarsky District ofKrasnodar Krai,Russia, located on the coast of theSea of Azov, 151 kilometers (94 mi) northwest ofKrasnodar, the administrative center of thekrai. Population:32,257 (2010 census);[2]32,677 (2002 census);[7]30,047 (1989 Soviet census).[8]
It was founded in 1829.[citation needed] Town status was granted to it in 1949.[citation needed]
A Russian Air Forcebase is located to the north east.
Within theframework of administrative divisions, Primorsko-Akhtarsk serves as theadministrative center ofPrimorsko-Akhtarsky District.[1] As an administrative division, it is, together with threerural localities, incorporated within Primorsko-Akhtarsky District as theTown of Primorsko-Akhtarsk.[1] As amunicipal division, the town of Primorsko-Akhtarsk is incorporated within Primorsko-Akhtarsky Municipal District asPrimorsko-Akhtarskoye Urban Settlement.[4]
