Pridefine (AHR-1,118) is adrug which was investigated as anantidepressant in the late 1970s and early 1980s, but was never marketed.[1] It acts as a balancedreuptake inhibitor ofserotonin, dopamine, andnorepinephrine, and also has some weakreleasing activity.[1][2][3]
Inclinical trials pridefine was found to be as efficacious as thetricyclic antidepressantsamitriptyline andimipramine in the treatment ofmajor depressive disorder but was much moretolerable in comparison and also had an earlieronset of action.[1] It has been shown to be effective in the treatment ofalcoholism as well.[1]
