Prana Krushna ParijaOBE (1 April 1891 – 2 June 1978)was an Indian botanist. His research work comprised mainly fundamental and applied aspects of plant physiology, experimental plant morphology, and ecological studies of plant environment. He studied water hyacinth and other aquatic weeds, respiration in leaves and apples, transpiration and heat resistance in plants, rice and algae and storage of apples.[1]He was born in icchapur villageJagatsinghpur in a well knownKarana family.[2][3][4]
He served as a vice chancellor ofUtkal University.[5]He worked as a principal inRavenshaw University (formerlyRavenshaw College),Cuttack[6][7]Pro Vice-Chancellor ofBanaras Hindu University,Varanasi[8]andVice-Chancellor ofUtkal University,Bhubaneswar.[9]The "Parija Library" of the university is named after him.[10]He was President of theIndian Science Congress Association[11] in 1960. He was an elected member of the firstOdisha Legislative Assembly.[12]
