Prabir Mitra (Bengali:প্রবীর মিত্র; 18 August 1941 – 5 January 2025), later adoptedHasan Imam[1][2] (Bengali:হাসান ইমাম), was a Bangladeshi film actor.[a] He wonBangladesh National Film Award forBest Supporting Actor for his performance in the filmBoro Bhalo Lok Chhilo in 1982.[4] He also won the 2018Lifetime Achievement Award.[6] As of 2019, he had worked on over 400 films.[7]
Mitra grew up inDhaka.[4] He studied inPogose School along withATM Shamsuzzaman.[7]
Mitra started his acting career with the theatre groupLalkuthi.[5] He debuted in film acting through the filmJolchobi (1973).[7]

Mitra converted toIslam fromHinduism and adopted the nameHasan Imam during his marriage in 1972.[8][9] He was married to Selina Hossain (d. 2000), who was aMuslim. However, after marriage, she changed her name to Ajanta Mitra but never changed her religion.[4] They had four children together: a daughter, Ferdous Parveen, and three sons, Mithun Mitra, Sifat Islam, and Samiul Islam.[10] He lost his wife, Ajanta Mitra, in 2000 and his youngest son, Samiul Islam, in 2012.[11]
Prabir Mitra died on 5 January 2025, at the age of 83.[12][13][14] As a Muslim, his funeral and burial were conducted according to Islamic rites. The firstnamaz-e-janaza for the veteran actor was held at theFilm Development Corporation (FDC) afterZuhr prayers. The secondnamaz-e-janaza was held at theChannel i premises. His body was later buried inAzimpur graveyard.[15][16][17]
