Power Struggle (2011) was aprofessional wrestlingpay-per-view (PPV) event promoted byNew Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). The event took place on November 12, 2011, inOsaka,Osaka, at theOsaka Prefectural Gymnasium and featured eleven matches, five of which were contested forchampionships.[1][2] It was the first event under thePower Struggle name.

Storylines

Power Struggle featured elevenprofessional wrestling matches that involved different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds andstorylines. Wrestlers portrayedvillains,heroes, orless distinguishable characters in the scripted events that built tension and culminated in a wrestling match or series of matches.[3]

Event

During the event all five champions were successful in their defenses.Davey Richards, one half of theNo Remorse Corps, who successfully defended theIWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship againstKushida andTiger Mask, challengedPrince Devitt, after he had successfully defended theIWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship againstTaka Michinoku, to a future title match.[1] The match took place on December 4 and saw Devitt emerge victorious.[4] The semi-main event sawBad Intentions (Giant Bernard andKarl Anderson) make their tenth successful defense of theIWGP Tag Team Championship againstSuzuki-gun representativesLance Archer andMinoru Suzuki.[1] This would turn out to be the final successful defense of the team, which set the record not only for most defenses, but also the longest reign. In the main event,Hiroshi Tanahashi defeatedToru Yano for his ninth successful defense of theIWGP Heavyweight Championship, regaining possession of the title belt, which had been stolen by Yano.[1]
