Portugis, orTernateño, was aPortuguese-based creole language spoken byChristians of mixedPortuguese andMalay ancestry in the islands ofAmbon andTernate in theMoluccas (Indonesia), from the 16th to the middle of the 20th century.

Portugis was acreole based chiefly onPortuguese andMalay.[1]

The language was gradually replaced by a variant of Malay calledAmbonese Malay.
