Portrait of Nicolaus Kratzer is a 1528 half-length portrait byHans Holbein the Younger. It is now in theLouvre,[1] whilst a copy after it hangs in theNational Portrait Gallery.[2] It shows the astronomerNikolaus Kratzer, a friend ofThomas More and Holbein himself. In his hand he holds a half-finishedpolyhedral sundial, whilst on the shelves behind him are a semi-circularstar quadrant, ashepherd's dial and other instruments.
