The arts

The arts, orcreative arts, are a vast range of human practices involvingcreative expression,storytelling, andcultural participation. The arts encompass diverse and plural modes of thought, deeds, and existence in an extensive range ofmedia. Both a dynamic and characteristically constant feature of human life, the arts have developed into increasingly stylized and intricate forms. This is achieved through sustained and deliberate study, training, or theorizing within a particular tradition, generations, and even betweencivilizations. The arts are a medium through which humans cultivate distinct social, cultural, and individual identities while transmitting values, impressions, judgments, ideas, visions, spiritual meanings, patterns of life, and experiences across time and space. On Her Majesty's Secret Service is the tenth novel and eleventh book inIan Fleming'sJames Bond series. It was first published in the United Kingdom byJonathan Cape on 1 April 1963. Fleming changed the formula and structure from the previous novel,The Spy Who Loved Me, and made a determined effort to produce a work that adhered to his tried and tested format. The initial and secondary print runs sold out quickly, with over 60,000 copies sold in the first month, double that of the previous book's first month of sales. Sesame Workshop (SW), originally known as theChildren's Television Workshop (CTW), is an Americannonprofit educational television production andmedia company that has been responsible for the production of several educational children's programs—including its first and best-known,Sesame Street—that have been televised internationally.Joan Ganz Cooney andLloyd Morrisett developed the idea to form an organization to produce theSesame Street television series. They spent two years, from 1966 to 1968, researching, developing, and raising money for the new series. Goldfinger is the seventh novel inIan Fleming'sJames Bond series. Written in January and February 1958, it was first published in the UK byJonathan Cape on 23 March 1959. The story centres on the investigation by the BritishSecret Service operative James Bond into the gold-smuggling activities ofAuric Goldfinger, who is also suspected by MI6 of being connected toSMERSH, theSoviet counter-intelligence organisation. The General in His Labyrinth (original Spanish title:El general en su laberinto) is a 1989dictator novel byColombian writer andNobel laureate Gabriel García Márquez. It is a fictionalized account of the last seven months ofSimón Bolívar, liberator and leader ofGran Colombia. The book traces Bolívar's final journey fromBogotá to the Caribbean coastline ofColombia in his attempt to leave South America for exile in Europe. Breaking with the traditional heroic portrayal of BolívarEl Libertador, García Márquez depicts a pathetic protagonist, a prematurely aged man who is physically ill and mentally exhausted. The story explores the labyrinth of Bolívar's life through the narrative of his memories, in which "despair, sickness, and death inevitably win out over love, health, and life". (Full article...)

Daisy Jugadai lived and painted atHaasts Bluff, Northern Territory. There she played a significant role in the establishment ofIkuntji Women's Centre, where many artists of the region have worked. Freedom of Speech

TheFour Freedoms is aseries of four oil paintings made in 1943 by the American artistNorman Rockwell. The paintings—Freedom of Speech,Freedom of Worship,Freedom from Want, andFreedom from Fear—are each approximately 45.75 by 35.5 inches (116.2 by 90.2 cm), and are now in theNorman Rockwell Museum inStockbridge, Massachusetts. The four freedoms refer to PresidentFranklin D. Roosevelt's January 1941Four Freedoms State of the Union address, in which he identified essentialhuman rights that should be universally protected. The theme was incorporated into theAtlantic Charter, and became part of theCharter of the United Nations. The paintings were reproduced inThe Saturday Evening Post over four consecutive weeks in 1943, alongside essays by prominent thinkers of the day. They became the highlight of a touring exhibition sponsored byThe Post and theU.S. Department of the Treasury. The exhibition and accompanying sales drives ofwar bonds raised over $132 million. Bramshill House, inBramshill, northeast Hampshire, England, is one of the largest and most importantJacobean prodigy house mansions in England. It was built in the early 17th century by the11th Baron Zouche ofHarringworth but was partly destroyed by fire a few years later. Ricketts House, andGanoga) is aGeorgian-style house made ofsandstone, built in 1852 or 1855 on the shore ofGanoga Lake inColley Township, Sullivan County, Pennsylvania, United States. It was home to several generations of the Ricketts family, includingR. Bruce Ricketts andWilliam Reynolds Ricketts. Kathleen Mary FerrierCBE (22 April 1912 – 8 October 1953) was an Englishcontralto singer who achieved an international reputation as a stage, concert and recording artist, with a repertoire extending from folksong and popular ballads to the classical works ofBach,Brahms,Mahler andElgar. Her death from cancer, at the height of her fame, was a shock to the musical world and particularly to the general public, which was kept in ignorance of the nature of her illness until after her death. Irere is the twenty-first collection by British fashion designerAlexander McQueen, released for the Spring/Summer 2003 season of hiseponymous fashion house.Irere was inspired by imagery from theAge of Discovery and from the people and animals of theAmazon rainforest. Its title is claimed to mean 'transformation' in an unspecified IndigenousAmazonian language. The collection comprised three distinct concepts presented as a narrative sequence: shipwreckedpirates, menacingconquistadors, and tropical birds. 23 Wall Street (also known as theJ.P. Morgan Building) is a four-story office building in theFinancial District ofManhattan inNew York City, United States. Located at the southeast corner ofWall Street andBroad Street, it was designed byTrowbridge & Livingston in theneoclassical style and constructed from 1913 to 1914.
