Religion is a range ofsocial-cultural systems, including designatedbehaviors and practices,ethics,morals,beliefs,worldviews,texts,sanctified places,prophecies, ororganizations, that generally relate humanity tosupernatural,transcendental, andspiritual elements—although there is no scholarly consensus over what precisely constitutes a religion. Hathor (Ancient Egyptian:ḥwt-ḥr,lit.'House of Horus',Ancient Greek:ἉθώρHathōr,Coptic:ϩⲁⲑⲱⲣ,Meroitic:𐦠𐦴𐦫𐦢Atari) was a majorgoddess inancient Egyptian religion who played a wide variety of roles. As asky deity, she was the mother or consort of the sky godHorus and thesun godRa, both of whom were connected with kingship, and thus she was thesymbolic mother of their earthly representatives, thepharaohs. She was one of several goddesses who acted as theEye of Ra, Ra's feminine counterpart, and in this form, she had a vengefulaspect that protected him from his enemies. Her beneficent side represented beauty, music, dance, joy, love, sexuality, and maternal care, and she acted as the consort of several male deities and the mother of their sons.
