Nepal, officially theFederal Democratic Republic of Nepal, is alandlocked country inSouth Asia. It is mainly situated in theHimalayas, but also includes parts of theIndo-Gangetic Plain. It borders theTibet Autonomous Region of Chinato the north, and Indiato the south, east, and west, while it is narrowly separated fromBangladesh by theSiliguri Corridor, and fromBhutan by theIndian state ofSikkim. Nepal has adiverse geography, includingfertile plains, subalpine forested hills, and eight of the world's tenhighest mountains, includingMount Everest, the highest point above mean sea level on Earth.Kathmandu is the nation's capital andits largest city. Hinduism is thelargest religion inNepal. In 2006, the country declared itself asecular country throughdemocracy, after the abolition of its monarchy. According to the2021 census, the Hindu population in Nepal is estimated to be around 23,677,744 which accounts for at least 81.19% of the country's population, the highest percentage ofHindus of any country in the world.Vikram Samvat, one of the two official calendars used in Nepal, is asolar calendar essentially the same to that widespread inNorth India as a religious calendar, and is based onSolar unit of time.
Among the ethnic groups are theBahun,Thakuri,Tharu,Chhetri,Magars,Hill Dalits,Madheshi,Newari people. Meanwhile, among the major ethnic groupsSherpa,Rai,Limbu,Gurung andTamang have lowest percentage of followers of Hinduism within the group. (Full article...)
Pashupatinath Temple (Nepali:श्री पशुपतिनाथ मन्दिर) is a reveredHindu temple dedicated toPashupati, a manifestation ofShiva. Located on the banks of the sacredBagmati River inKathmandu,Nepal, the temple is one of the oldest and most significant religious complexes in South Asia. Recognised as aUNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, it is one of seven monument groups inUNESCO's designation ofKathmandu Valley and is described as an "extensive Hindu temple precinct" comprising a vast network of temples,ashrams, inscriptions, and images raised over the centuries along the banks of the sacred Bagmati River. The temple, considered one of the holiest pilgrimage sites forHindus, is built on an area of 246 hectares (2,460,000 m2) and includes 518 mini-temples and the principal pagoda-style temple.
Pashupatinath temple is venerated as one of the holiest abodes ofShiva inSkanda Purana and is honored as one of thePaadal Petra Sthalams (Tamil Tevara Sthalam) ofTevaram. Thelinga of Pashupatinath, as perShiva Purana, is believed to be the bestower of all wishes. Mythologically, the temple is seen as the head of Shiva with his body stretching to theKashi Vishwanath Temple in India, and is also spiritually connected to the temples ofKedarnath,Rudranath,Kalpeshwar,Madhyamaheshwar andTungnath as per the legend ofMahabharata. Namche Bazaar is atown inKhumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality inSolukhumbu District ofProvince No. 1 of north-easternNepal. It is located within theKhumbu area at 3,440 metres (11,286 ft) at its low point, populating the sides of a hill. MostSherpa who are in the tourism business are from the Namche area. Namche is the main trading center and hub for the Khumbu region with manyNepalese officials.
Bhrikuti Devi (Sanskrit:भृकुटी), known to the Tibetans asBal-mo-bza' Khri-btsun,Bhelsa Tritsun ("Besa"Nepallit. 'Nepali consort') or simplyKhri-btsun (lit. 'royal lady'), was a Nepali princess from theLicchavi dynasty, and the first queen of KingSongtsen Gampo,King of Tibet fromc. 622. Yomari, also calledYamari, (Nepal Bhasa:𑐫𑑀𑐩𑐵𑐬𑐷, also written as𑐫𑑅𑐩𑐵𑐬𑐷,romanized.yomarī) is a delicacy of theNewar community inNepal which is usually eaten in the winter. It is a steameddumpling that consists of an external covering ofrice flour with sweet high caloric fillings such aschaku andkhuwa which are traditionally believed to ward off the cold. Yomari plays a very important role in Newar society and is a key part of its namesake festival,Yomari Punhi, celebrated in the winter. It is also believed that the triangular shape of the Yamari is a symbolic representation of one half of theShadkona, the symbol ofSaraswati and wisdom. (Full article...)
