Luxembourg, officially theGrand Duchy of Luxembourg, is alandlocked country inWestern Europe. It is bordered byBelgium to the west and north,Germany to the east, andFrance on the south. Its capital and most populous city,Luxembourg City, is one ofthe four institutional seats of the European Union and hosts severalEU institutions, notably theCourt of Justice of the European Union, the highest judicial authority in the EU.

As part of theLow Countries, Luxembourg hasclose historic, political, and cultural ties toBelgium and theNetherlands.Luxembourg's culture, people, andlanguages are greatly influenced by France and Germany:Luxembourgish, a Germanic language, is the only recognizednational language of theLuxembourgish people and of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg; French is the sole language for legislation; and both languages along with German are used for administrative matters.

With an area of 2,586 square kilometres (998 sq mi), Luxembourg isEurope's seventh-smallest country. In 2025, it had a population of 690,947, which makes it one of theleast-populated countries in Europe, albeit with thehighest population growth rate; foreign nationals account for almost half the population. Luxembourg is arepresentative democracy headed by aconstitutional monarch,Grand Duke Guillaume V, making it the world's only remaining sovereigngrand duchy. (Full article...)

TheDemocratic Party (DP;Luxembourgish:Demokratesch Partei,French:Parti démocratique,German:Demokratische Partei) is the majorsocial-liberalpolitical party inLuxembourg. One of the three major parties, the DP sits on thecentre tocentre-right, holding moderatemarket liberal views combined with a strong emphasis oncivil liberties,human rights, andinternationalism.

Founded in 1955, the party is currently led byLex Delles. Its former president,Xavier Bettel, was thePrime Minister of Luxembourg from 2013 to 2023, leading theBettel I andII governments in coalition with theLuxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP) andThe Greens. It is the second-largest party in theChamber of Deputies, with fourteen seats out of sixty, having won 17.8% of the vote at the2023 general election, and has two seats in theEuropean Parliament out of six. The party's stronghold is aroundLuxembourg City, where it has held themayorship for all but 6 years since the end of World War II. (Full article...)
