Its successor,Mercedes-Benz Stadium, was built adjacent to the south and opened in August2017.

The offices of thegovernor,lieutenant governor, andsecretary of state are on the secondfloor, while theGeneral Assembly meets on the third floor from January to April. There are also visitors' galleries and amuseum on the fourth floor.

Rabun Bald, with anelevation of 4,696 feet (1,431 m), is the second-highest peak in the U.S. state ofGeorgia; onlyBrasstown Bald 4,784 feet (1,458 m) is higher. It is immediately southeast ofSky Valley, Georgia, and is the tallest mountain in the county. An observation tower on the summit provides hikers with views that, on clear days, extend for more than 100 miles (160 km).

Blood Mountain is the highest peak on theGeorgia section of theAppalachian Trail and the sixth-tallest mountain in Georgia, with an elevation of 4,458 feet (1,359 m). It is located on the border ofLumpkin County withUnion County and is within the boundaries of theChattahoochee National Forest and theBlood Mountain Wilderness. There are several waterfalls,hiking trails and other recreational areas in the vicinity.

Vogel State Park is a 233-acre (0.94 km2) or 94 hectares state park located at the base ofBlood Mountain in theChattahoochee National Forest. It became one of the first two parks inGeorgia when it founded astate park system in 1931. Much of the park was constructed by theCivilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s.

Rocktown is afree face rock climbing area consisting of an outcropping ofsandstone boulders on theAppalachian Plateau in northwestGeorgia. It comprises several acres of large sandstone boulders; the average size is 30 to 40 feet (9.1 to 12.2 m) high. Every boulder has its own unique features, all with great foot and hand holds and very popular with climbers.

Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay is a base of theUnited States Navy located adjacent to the town ofSt. Marys inCamden County, Georgia, in southeasternGeorgia, and 38 miles (61 km) fromJacksonville, Florida. The Submarine Base is theU.S. Atlantic Fleet's home port for U.S. Navy Fleetballistic missilenuclear submarines armed withTrident missile nuclear weapons. Thissubmarine base covers about 16,000 acres (6,400 hectares) of land, of which 4,000 acres (1,600 hectares) are protectedwetlands.

The Falcons joined the NFL in 1965 as anexpansion team, after the NFL offered then-ownerRankin Smith a franchise to keep him from joining the rivalAmerican Football League (AFL). The Falcons' current home field isMercedes-Benz Stadium, which opened in time for the2017 season; the team's headquarters and practice facilities are located at a 50-acre site inFlowery Branch, Georgia.
