PortAudio is anopen-sourcecomputer library foraudio playback and recording. It is across-platform library, so programs using it can run on many different computeroperating systems, includingWindows,Mac OS X andLinux. PortAudio supportsCore Audio,ALSA, andMME,DirectSound,ASIO andWASAPI on Windows. Like other libraries whose primary goal is portability, PortAudio is written in theC programming language. It has also been implemented in the languagesPureBasic andLazarus/Free Pascal. PortAudio is based on a callback paradigm, similar toJACK andASIO.
PortAudio is part of thePortMedia project, which aims to provide a set of platform-independent libraries for music software. The freeaudio editorAudacity uses the PortAudio library,[2] and so does JACK on the Windows platform.
