The nameHuppain stems fromNorse/NorwegianOppheim, reflecting the general Viking history of Normandy.

The town was captured by Royal Marines ofNo. 47 (Royal Marine) Commando inOperation Aubery during the Normandy landings and used as the terminal forPLUTO (Pipe-Lines Under The Ocean).[4]
