Pontikonisi (Greek:Ποντικονήσι, "Mouse Island") is aGreek islet near the island ofCorfu. Its prominent feature is aByzantine chapel of ChristPantokrator, dating from the 11th or 12th century.[1]
The island of Pontikonisi might have served as an inspiration forArnold Böcklin's paintingIsle of the Dead.[2]
Some of the ashes of the British conservationistGerald Durrell, as well as those of his sisterMargaret Durrell, were scattered on the island: the Durrells lived on Corfu as children and used to swim out to it.[3]
