Polyvinyl esters are a group ofthermoplasticvinyl polymers. The most important examples of this group arepolyvinyl acetate (PVAC) andpolyvinyl propionate.[1]
Theradical polymerization of vinyl ester1 (e.g. in case ofvinyl acetate; R = CH3) yields polyvinyl ester2:

The transparent polymers are used for the production oflacquers and asadhesives.[1] Thehydrolytic cleavage of theester bonds of vinyl acetate is of industrial significance.[2]
