Greek town of ancient Mysia

Poemanenum orPoimanenon (Ancient Greek:Ποιμάνινον)[1] was a Greek town ofancient Mysia, south ofCyzicus and on the southwest ofLake Aphnitis. It belonged to the territory of Cyzicus was well fortified, and possessed a celebrated temple ofAsclepius. Other writers call the townPoemanenus orPoimanenos (Ποιμανηνός)[2] orPoemanentus orPoimanentos (Ποιμάνεντος).[3] Its inhabitants are calledPoemaneni (Ποιμανηνοί)[4] According to theNotitiae Episcopatuum, it became abishopric. No longer a residential see, it remains atitular see of theRoman Catholic Church.[5] Nearby was fought theBattle of Poemanenum in 1223 or 1224.

Its site is located nearAlexa inAsiatic Turkey.[6][7]
