Plaxhaplous was adubious[1] genus ofglyptodont, an extinct relative of the modernarmadillo. It lived in thePleistocene epoch.[2] Thetype species isPlaxhaplous canaliculatus.[3]Plaxhaplous canaliculatus fossils were found in Argentina, nearLuján inBuenos Aires Province.[3]Plaxhaplous fossils have also been found inUruguay.[2] and in theCharana Formation ofBolivia.[4]
Like all glyptodonts,Plaxhaplous was endowed with acarapace. This carapace was formed by bonyosteoderms, which formed a rigid and robust structure which protected the animal from predators.[3]
The namePlaxhaplous means simple, flat surface.[3]
