ThePitt family were an English aristocratic family whose members included theEarls of Chatham, theEarls of Londonderry and theBarons Camelford.[1] The family produced two British Prime Ministers:William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham, and his sonWilliam Pitt the Younger.

The family's fortunes were boosted greatly byThomas Pitt who while serving asGovernor of Madras acquired theRegent Diamond and sold it on at a great profit in 1717.
