List of antbird genera

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected fromPithyini)

Theantbirds are a largefamily,Thamnophilidae, of smallishpasserine birdspecies of subtropical and tropicalCentral andSouth America. The family has more than 230species divided into 63genera and includes theantshrikes,antwrens,antvireos,fire-eyes,bare-eyes andbushbirds. The most closely related species to the antbirds are thegnateaters (family Conopophagidae) and thecrescentchests (family Melanopareiidae).[1]

List and classification of genera

[edit]

The list of genera below follows theWorld Bird List maintained byFrank Gill, David Donsker andPamela Rasmussen on behalf of theInternational Ornithologists' Union.[2] The division of the genera into subfamilies and tribes follows the phylogeny published by Jan Ohlson and colleagues in 2013 as well as the list maintained by Joseph del Hoyo on the Handbook of the Birds of the World Alive website.[1][3] For more detail, seelist of antbird species.
