Pitepalt (Swedish pronunciation:[ˈpiːtɛˈpaltː];[1] seepalt) is aSwedish dish related tokroppkakor or meat-filleddumplings. It is especially associated with thecity ofPiteå inNorrbotten County, thought to be its place of origin.[2]
This dish has many varieties. Pitepalt are mostly made of rawpotatoes and a mix of wheat and barley flour. Pitepalt andkroppkaka look quite similar in shape. Forkroppkaka, pre-boiled potatoes andwheat flour are used. This giveskroppkaka dumplings a slightly lighter color.[3]
Potatoes, wheat flour or barley flour,salt andpork are common ingredients in pitepalt. Somerecipes also mentiononions but this is uncommon.[citation needed]
This dish is traditionally eaten with butter andlingonberry jam.[4]
