Pionia (Ancient Greek:Πιονία) orPioniai (Πιονίαι) was a town in the interior ofancient Mysia, on the riverSatnioeis, to the northwest ofAntandrus, and to the northeast ofGargara.[1] Under the Roman dominion it belonged to the jurisdiction ofAdramyttium,[2] and in the ecclesiastical notices it appears as abishopric of theHellespontine province.[3] The bishop Aetius represented the city at theCouncil of Ephesus. No longer the seat of a residential bishop, it remains atitular see of theRoman Catholic Church.[4]
Its site is located nearGömeniç inAsiatic Turkey.[5][6]
