Pierre Kast

French film director and screenwriter

Pierre Kast (French:[kast]; 22 September 1920 – 20 October 1984)[1] was aFrenchscreenwriter, film and television director, and freedom fighter.

Biography

Prior to his work in film, Kast was a resistance activist inWorld War II, opposing theVichy regime as a member of the Communist Students of Paris.[2]

As a member of the magazineCahiers du cinéma in the 1950s, Kast created many short films and documentaries. He also served as a critic for the magazine.[3]

Kast died from aheart attack on board an aircraft on 20 October 1984, aged 64.[4]
